What Is Zoom Teeth Whitening?

Are you interested in professional teeth whitening? If so, you’ve probably come across Philips Zoom QuickPro! But what is Zoom whitening? And how long do results even last?

Our dentists in Omaha, NE, answer your questions about Zoom teeth whitening and how it compares to other in-office treatments.

What Is Zoom Whitening?

Zoom is an in-office whitening treatment from Philips. Philips Zoom QuickPro uses hydrogen peroxide to whiten your teeth effectively and reliably — which is just one reason dentists all over the country use it.

Zoom can whiten your teeth two or three shades in a single dentist visit – but that’s something we’ll touch on more below!

If you’re on the fence about Zoom whitening, go see your dentist. They can explain the ins and outs of Zoom, and determine whether or not you’re a candidate for treatment.

How Does Zoom Teeth Whitening Work?

Zoom whitening works by using a two-layer technology to whiten your teeth in an hour or less.

Your dentist will begin by thoroughly cleaning your teeth; this will remove any surface stains and prepare the teeth for treatment. They’ll then place a mouthguard, or retractor, to keep your lips away from the whitening solution. A barrier may also be used along the gumline to prevent irritation.

Once this is complete, the treatment will begin.

Zoom Whitening Procedure

  1. First, a 20% hydrogen peroxide varnish is applied to the fronts of your teeth. Hydrogen peroxide is a bleaching agent that safely whitens the teeth.

  2. A second, sealant layer is added over the whitening varnish to protect your teeth and reduce sensitivity. The sealant dries in seconds and can be removed 30 minutes after your appointment. Simply wipe or brush off the gel to see immediate results!

  3. Your dentist will provide you with aftercare instructions. Then, you’re free to go about your day – using your best judgment, of course!

How Long Does Zoom Whitening Take?

Zoom whitening usually takes 60-90 minutes. Because of this, our West Omaha dentists allow teeth whitening services to be added to any regular appointment.

All in all, Zoom teeth whitening is one of the quickest and safest ways to whiten your teeth!

How Long Does Zoom Whitening Last?

Zoom whitening lasts between 12 to 24 months, though this depends on how you care for your teeth after treatment. We recommend regular brushing and flossing, whitening toothpaste, and seeing your dentist every six months for the best results.

Your dentist may send you home with a follow-up kit. Aftercare is one of the most crucial parts of treatment, so follow the instructions they give you.

After treatment, you should avoid teeth-staining foods like coffee, tea, and red wine.

What Can You Eat After Zoom Whitening?

Following Zoom whitening, your teeth will absorb color more easily. While this effect is temporary, you’ll need to be mindful of what you eat.

Foods and drinks that are safe to consume after whitening treatment include:

  • Pasta, bread, and rice (avoid red sauces or curries)

  • Chicken, turkey, and white fish

  • Milk and yogurt

  • Light-colored cheeses

Foods to Avoid After Zoom Teeth Whitening

Your diet and dental habits will affect how long teeth whitening lasts. Foods and drinks to avoid after whitening treatment include:

  • Coffee and dark tea

  • Acidic foods and drinks (sodas, citrus, pickles, etc.)

  • Red wine

  • Dark fruits and vegetables

  • Colored sugar or chocolate

  • Tobacco products

As mentioned, recently whitened teeth are more prone to staining. While you don’t have to go without these foods forever, you should avoid them the first week after treatment.

How Much Does Zoom Whitening Cost?

While the cost of professional teeth whitening depends on whether or not restorative care is needed, you can expect to pay between $300 to $600. However, this range depends on your dentist’s experience and location.
